Technology Pros and Cons

We can't escape technology! And researchers state that we will use it even more in the future. It is estimated that by the year
2020, close to 100 million consumers will purchase augmented reality devices. And here's another interesting prediction: close to
85% of the user interactions will soon no longer need a human to manage them. It's a bit scary, isn't it?

Bots are everywhere, and companies invest a lot of money into artificial intelligence. There's a simple explanation for this
phenomenon: AI is much cheaper and has the huge potential of successfully replacing repetitive work - something that we,
humans, don't like that much.

It looks like technology will change our lives in the very near future once again. This article will analyze a few of the main
arguments that either support technology, or are against it. Yes, there are several important drawbacks as well!

Let us begin with the key reason why businesses simply love technology: it improves productivity. Companies that use technology
are able to save a lot of time, energy and resources, especially when robots can be used for each step of the manufacturing
process. There's danger ahead, though: when there will be no need for people, many of us will become jobless. Also, small
businesses, which will not have the money to use the most modern technologies, may be forced to fire their employees and close
their offices.

It's true that some technologies have also created a significant number of new jobs. Companies still need people to develop,
check and maintain their tech devices. Technology can make things easier on our end, so future generations may work less, while
being paid more.

Due to technology, many businesses are able to grow and reach their target markets faster. Their products and services can now
be promoted on the Internet without breaking the bank. Facebook allows advertisers to spend the ad money wisely, by promoting
their products and services to people who may be interested in purchasing them.

Huge corporations use technology to create large databases, which include the information that's needed by all their employees.
Of course, the usage of redundant backup systems is mandatory; it's the safest way of keeping the data intact and available at all
times.

Students benefit when technology is used in schools and universities. Due to it, each student can access a great variety of
academic materials. It's true that most of the information can be found on the web as well, but not all of it is correct and reliable.
Actually, the main disadvantage of combining education and technology is the continuous risk of distraction. A student can be
easily distracted while surfing the Internet with the goal of getting information that's needed for his or her homework, for
example.

Many teachers are also worried that students who spend hours on social media platforms each day will lack the abilities that are
needed for "real", live social interactions. Some of them are also worried about cyberbullying, which seems to be more and more
frequent in schools, colleges and universities.

Technology may be cheap, but it's also got a dark side. People can now make Internet-based video calls for free, for example. But
few of them know that most applications collect private data from their phones (call logs, contact names, etc.) which is then sold
to advertising companies. The collected data is then processed, allowing specific advertisements to be sent to a highly targeted
list of consumers.

Let's end this article in a positive note, though. Due to the rapid development of technology, many things have changed in the
medical industry for the better. Today, there are several new surgical procedures that people can benefit from. As a direct
consequence, the quality of life has significantly increased.
